Cole Urges Defense Department to Improve Military Voting System
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) today sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta urging him modernize the military voting system in order to remove obstacles overseas military service members face in exercising their voting rights. Cole made the following comment about the issue:
"It's absolutely unacceptable that many of our military members serving overseas may not have their votes counted this year. While the Department of Defense has made some progress in modernizing the ballot-mailing system, many of the reforms have not been implemented, leading to delays that deny service members the ability to exercise their right to vote. I urge Secretary Panetta and the Department of Defense to act quickly to ensure that service members never again face obstacles to voting."
