Cole Statement on Speaker Pelosi’s Partisan Coronavirus Oversight Committee

April 23, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H. Res. 935, Establishing a Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis as a select investigative subcommittee of the Committee on Oversight and Reform.

"While Speaker Pelosi claims to be creating a new congressional panel to oversee all aspects of the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic and how taxpayer dollars are spent, doing so is both duplicative and completely unnecessary. Congress already has numerous existing and effective oversight functions, including the House Oversight and Reform Committee as well as within several standing committees of the House. Moreover, the CARES Act just created a Congressional Oversight Commission charged specifically with oversight of the federal government's coronavirus response. Unfortunately, it seems much more likely that Speaker Pelosi's select committee is yet another partisan attempt to embarrass and criticize the Trump Administration."
