Cole Applauds China Task Force Report

October 2, 2020
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) issued the following statement after members of the China Task Force (CTF) this week published a report detailing their work and making more than 400 policy recommendations to protect U.S. interests against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

“The coronavirus pandemic isn’t the first time the Chinese Communist Party has shown it cannot be trusted as a global partner. However, the consequences of their behavior and mishandling of the crisis were on a disastrous new level. Because of their dishonesty, irresponsibility and lack of transparency with what they knew and when, the whole world needlessly suffered and is still suffering. More than a million precious lives have been lost to date, and many economies are barely hanging on.

“There is no doubt that China is angling for greater power and recognition in the world order, which makes it even more urgent for the United States to take serious and coordinated steps to counter China’s malign behavior. I am encouraged by the recommendations put forward by the China Task Force to keep China accountable and strengthen America’s national and economic security against the very real threat posed by the communist regime.”

About the China Task Force

The China Task Force was initially set up to be a bipartisan committee, but House Democratic leaders chose not to participate. The Task Force was led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Michael McCaul and included 14 other members of Congress representing 11 House committees. Over the course of its work, the Task Force engaged with more than 130 leaders to provide insights and solutions for its comprehensive action plan. The CTF Report includes 82 key findings and more than 400 recommendations, many of which reflect bipartisan legislation already introduced or passed in the House or Senate.
