UPDATED PARTICIPATION GUIDANCE: While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused delays and disruptions, the annual Congressional Art Competition for 2020 is still taking place and art entries from high school students in the Fourth District will still be accepted through an extended deadline of Friday, May 22, 2020.
While all three of my district offices in Oklahoma remain drop-off points for submitting artwork, participants should schedule a drop-off time in advance to ensure someone is available to assist with intake at a safe social distance. The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce also continues to serve as a drop-off point for artwork submissions. To schedule a drop-off time and location, please call my office at (405) 329-6500.
Each spring, I am delighted to invite high school students from my district to participate in this annual competition sponsored by the Congressional Institute. If you’re a high school student looking for an opportunity to show off your creativity, this is your chance to represent our district and receive national recognition.
Started in 1982, An Artistic Discovery allows lawmakers to encourage and recognize the artistic talent of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 students have participated in the nationwide competition.
Open to all high school students living in the Fourth District of Oklahoma, the winning prize includes display of the artwork for one year in the U.S. Capitol and travel for the winner and a guest will be flown to Washington, D.C. for a reception and award presentation courtesy of Southwest Airlines. As a Congressional Art District First Place winner, he or she may also be eligible to receive a $3,000 per year scholarship to the Savannah College of Art. The second-place winner will have his or her artwork displayed in my Norman office for one year and will receive a certificate of recognition.
If you would like to enter this year’s competition, please download and carefully review the forms below. All entries must be original in concept, design and execution.
