Cole Statement on President Trump’s Oval Office Address on COVID-19

March 11, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after President Donald Trump addressed the nation from the Oval Office and provided an update on the U.S. response to COVID-19, the strain of coronavirus originating in Wuhan, China. During his address, the president announced a 30-day ban on European travel to begin on Friday as well as plans to provide Americans with financial relief.

"As the coronavirus continues to spread globally and disrupt our daily lives, President Donald Trump is right to act cautiously and seriously to protect the American people and our livelihoods. While these pointed measures may be unprecedented, it shows that the president is willing to go to great lengths to stop this virus from reaching more of our communities and claiming more victims. That should bring some comfort to the American people. In the days ahead, we must continue doing our part in protecting ourselves and the most vulnerable. For the health and safety of us all, it's important to remain vigilant in washing your hands, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, covering your mouth when you cough and staying home when you're sick. We can and will get through this together."
