Cole Statement on Work Ahead and Committee Assignments in 118th Congress

January 27, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04), who was sworn in for his eleventh term in the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this month, released the following statement after his committee and leadership assignments were finalized for the 118th Congress.

Cole will serve as Chairman of the House Rules Committee, which is a procedural panel that considers every major piece of legislation before it reaches the House floor. He will also continue serving as a Deputy Whip for the House Republican Conference and as a member of the House Republican Steering Committee.

Additionally, Cole will remain a member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he will serve as Vice Chairman of the full committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development. He will also remain on the Defense Subcommittee.

"As our nation faces a multitude of worsening crises, I am honored the people of the Fourth District of Oklahoma have reelected me to serve another term in the U.S. House of Representatives," said Cole. "Indeed, there is much work to be done, and the new Republican majority is ready to work on securing the southern border, tackling inflation, restoring North American energy independence, providing needed oversight of the Biden Administration and Democrats' reckless and disastrous actions and much more. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House on solutions to these issues. I am pleased to lead the Rules Committee as Chairman and continue working with Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Kay Granger to advance these priorities and preserve Oklahoma values."

"I am proud to have Tom Cole working beside me as Vice Chairman of the full committee and Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development subcommittee," said Chairwoman Granger. "I look forward to his continued success on this important subcommittee and know he will handle it well by putting the priorities of the American people first just as he did on the subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies."
