House Republicans Hold Biden Administration Accountable on Pandemic Emergency Overreach

February 2, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H. J. Res. 7 yesterday and H.R. 139, H.R. 382 and H.R. 497 earlier this week. Cole supported the resolution and three bills.

"It has been three years since the coronavirus pandemic was declared a national emergency and public health emergency," said Cole. "The American public has now returned to normal life, and it is time the federal government do the same. However, President Joe Biden continues to declare the pandemic is over while simultaneously using it as a justification for executive actions such as his illegal and unconstitutional cancellation of student debt. Now that the Republican majority in the House has brought these issues to light, the president has announced he plans to end the national emergency on May 11 of this year, revealing this is only a political game for him and Democrats. When Republicans won back the majority of the House, we promised oversight of the Biden Administration, and I was proud to vote for these bills that will help get our country back on track from the coronavirus pandemic and end the pandemic hypocrisy."

Earlier this week, Cole made extensive remarks during the House Rules Committee's consideration of the legislation and resolution. Video of his remarks available here and transcript here.
