Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) announced Andrew Zhang of Norman North High School and Albert Tang of Marriots Ridge High School as the Fourth District of Oklahoma’s winners of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge, a competition that invites students to create an application for a PC, web, tablet, mobile, or other device using programming language.
The students’ app, called “VideoWise,” simplifies and summarizes YouTube videos using just the link. VideoWise uses Artificial Intelligence Capabilities to do so in a timely manner.
“I am very excited to announce Andrew and Albert as the winners of this year’s Congressional App Competition,” said Congressman Cole. “The students demonstrated their creativity skills and knowledge, as well as impressive coding skills, through the creation of this app. I am confident that they both have bright futures ahead of them.”
“Making our app was such an awesome experience,” Andrew and Albert said.
“While working on computer science projects, we noticed several ways online learning could be improved. Misleading video titles often promised one thing but delivered another and many tutorials dragged on for 30 minutes when all we needed was a quick summary,” the winners said. “These challenges inspired us to build VideoWise—a tool designed to help students and learners use video content more efficiently. We focused on solving common problems, like quickly finding specific moments in videos and accessing key information at a glance. We’re excited to keep improving VideoWise and sharing it with learners around the world.”
