Cole Mourns Loss of Congressman Walter Jones

February 11, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement mourning the loss of Congressman Walter Jones (NC-03):

"I was saddened to hear about the passing of my colleague and friend Congressman Walter Jones," said Cole. "I have served alongside Walter during the entirety of my congressional career as members of the House Republican Conference. In fact, we served together for a number of years on the House Armed Services Committee.

"Walter took a principled stance on the issues, and he worked in a bipartisan manner to get things done. Even when people disagreed with him, he always remained courteous, open and honest with other members and his constituents. Consequently, congressional staffers once voted him the ‘Nicest Member of Congress.' To me, that speaks volumes about the way he carried himself and how he dealt with others.

"My sincerest sympathies are with Walter's family and many friends. He was a good man, who will certainly be missed."
