Cole Receives Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award
Norman, OK – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after he was honored with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's inaugural Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award, which recognizes members of Congress who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and participate in the constructive governing necessary to advance our country.
"I am honored to be one of the few recipients of this distinguished award," said Congressman Cole. "As Abraham Lincoln famously said, ‘each person is individually entitled to do as he pleases with himself with the fruits of his labor.' He envisioned a country founded on many freedoms including free enterprise, something I always strive to protect as a Member of Congress. This is something I believe should be a bipartisan issue, fought for on both sides of the aisle. I am proud to carry on the legacy of Abraham Lincoln."
"Now more than ever, our nation needs elected leaders with the courage to pursue common ground and bold, bipartisan solutions to America's greatest challenges," said U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Suzanne Clark. "These awards honor the deserving members of Congress that are forging commonsense solutions, working across the aisle, to enact lasting and meaningful reforms. In the days ahead, Congress must work together and support our nation's free enterprise principles that will help bring our economy back to strength and put our people back to work."
