Cole Statement on Fake USPS Emergency Bill
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 8015, related to emergency funding for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). Cole opposed the legislation.
"Ensuring an efficient and effective postal service for all Americans is a goal shared by members across party lines. Indeed, the U.S. Postal Service is of critical importance to all Americans, and particularly those living in rural areas, like many of my constituents in the Fourth District of Oklahoma," said Cole. "While data over several years certainly indicates that USPS faces real long-term challenges absent serious reforms, those challenges are not of the pandemic's making and were certainly not exacerbated by this administration.
"Unfortunately, House Democrats chose to use USPS's years long struggle as fodder to intentionally mislead Americans by spreading lies that USPS is somehow in danger of immediate collapse or that it's incapable of efficiently delivering election-related mail. Neither fearmongering claim is accurate.
"Rather than calling members back to waste time on fake emergency legislation going nowhere in the Senate and never making it to the president's desk, Speaker Pelosi should try bringing up measures with broad bipartisan agreement and of actual urgency to the American people," concluded Cole.
