Rep. Cole Criticizes Inflammatory Ad

September 10, 2007

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Tom Cole (OK-4) released the following statement today in response to an ad placed in today's New York Times by MoveOn.org.

"It is widely known that MoveOn.org has attempted to intimidate Members of Congress into adopting a withdrawal timetable that experts believe would cause more death and destruction. The course they recommend would result in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis. While that is their political prerogative, they have gone too far in their recent character attacks against General David Petraeus."

"General Petraeus has devoted his professional life to serving and protecting America against those who wish us harm. Moveon.org owes an apology to the General and the soldiers who have served alongside him in the fight against terrorism. This is a critical time for the future of our country and we ought to be working together to find a real solution instead of turning Iraq into a political, partisan game."
