McCarville Report: Cole Warns House Democrats About Partisan Approach to Defense Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives has taken up its own National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the legislation passed each year to set the appropriations for the military and other homeland security programs. However, the bill, H.R. 2500, which usually gains the support of Congressman Tom Cole, might not get his vote this time around. The Senate passed a version of the NDAA which President Trump has indicated he would sign.
During a House speech on Wednesday, Cole warns his fellow House members that they are about to repeat a mistake the body recently made with the border crisis emergency funding.
“And I think if we don’t stop this process, we’re about to make the mistake we made two weeks ago. Now, the Senate has given us, as it did two weeks ago, a different example. They’ve passed a National Defense Authorization by a vote of 86 to 8. And so overwhelmingly bipartisan,” said Cole in his speech.
Cole is predicting the House version of the bill will push Congress into a another confrontation between the Senate and the President.
