Cole named Vice Chairman of Total Force Subcommittee on Armed Services

February 21, 2003

Norman, OK– Representative Tom Cole (R-Moore) was selected as the Vice Chairman of the Total Force Subcommittee by House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter on Thursday.

The subcommittee oversees National Guard and Reserve programs as well as military personnel issues such as pay raises, bonuses, promotion schedules and the support programs on all bases such as commissaries and PX's.

"Tom Cole's new position as Vice Chairman of the Total Force Subcommittee means he will play an important role in looking after the well-being of our troops," said Rep. Duncan Hunter, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. "He will be a strong voice for national defense and we look forward to his leadership."

"To combine the honor of serving in Congress with the benefit of sitting on the Armed Services Committee and now the privilege of serving as Vice Chair of this important subcommittee is humbling," stated Cole. "This subcommittee vice chairmanship will allow me to be more involved in one of the most important responsibilities a Congressman can have, taking care of our men and women in uniform."

Cole also sits on the Readiness Subcommittee in Armed Services, which oversees weapons programs, military constructions and has oversight on base closures.
