Congressman Cole Supports Meal Plan for Wounded G.I.'s
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole voted Wednesday in favor of legislation that will amend the U.S. code to exempt certain soldiers from all meal expenses while they are hospitalized due to injuries received while fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. H.R. 2998 unanimously passed in the House of Representatives.
"It is petty and unappreciative to ask these wounded soldiers to pay for food while they are recovering from injuries incurred while fighting for our freedom," Congressman Tom Cole said. "Our soldiers pay an enormous price to protect our freedoms; in an effort to show our gratitude, the least we can do is pay for their meals while they are in a hospital."
Currently, upon leaving the hospital, enlisted personnel and officers are required to pay for the meals provided to them while hospitalized.
