Congressman Cole to Travel to Normandy for 60th D-Day Anniversary

June 4, 2004

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole will be traveling to France to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Allied Forces invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. On D-Day, 5,000 naval vessels, more than 11,000 sorties by Allied aircraft, and 153,000 members of the Allied Expeditionary Force fought at five separate beaches in Normandy to restore freedom to the millions of people under the Nazi tyranny.

"This day marks a great victory and a turning point in the war and in our history. The brave men and women who fought so bravely for liberty and the cause of freedom in Europe will forever be honored for their sacrifices," Congressman Tom Cole said. "The invasion of Normandy was the beginning of the end of Hitler's aspirations for world domination."

Congressman Cole will participate in a bi-national ceremony at Omaha Beach and a ceremony at multi-national Arromanches with members of the House and Senate and President George Bush.

"I look forward to taking part in the 60th anniversary ceremonies in Normandy. The people of the United States honor the courage of their fellow countrymen, both living and dead, who gave their lives and sacrificed so much to ensure freedom across the globe," Congressman Tom Cole said. "I am proud to have the opportunity to express the gratitude millions of Americans have to those who sacrificed so much for our liberty."
