Congressman Cole's Statement Following the State of the Union 2004

January 20, 2004

Washington, D.C. – "The President has once again used the style of the union message to inform, inspire and rally the American people. He clearly defined the challenges we face at home and abroad and offered the type of bold leadership we have come to expect of him as our nation's commander in chief.

"Thanks to the President, America is once again advancing the cause of freedom around the world while making our country and those of our allies more secure in a time of danger. He understands that our nation cannot stand by passively in the face of terrorism. His willingness to take the fight to terrorist has provided a new measure of security to America while bringing the hope of freedom and democracy to millions abroad.

"Here at home the tax cuts the President provided through Congress have begun to turn our country around. He had led us through the recession he inherited and the stocks of 9/11 toward a new era of rapid and sustained economic growth. At the same time the President has pushed through legislation that will improve our schools, give our seniors access to prescription drugs, and provide security and opportunity for Americans from all walks of life.

"As Americans and Oklahomans saw tonight, President Bush is a strong and decisive leader. He is also a compassionate and decent man. He has brought honor to the White House-and that is something for which every American, regardless of party, can be grateful. I am proud and grateful that our country has such a leader at this critical moment in our history."
