WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Cole voted for legislation today that would increase the fines for broadcasting indecent material by ten times. The Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act (S. 193) would increase the fine levied against broadcasters by the Federal Communications Commission from $32,500 per violation to $325,000 per violation. This bill passed in the House today.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Cole announced today that the U.S. Treasury Department will repeal the federal excise tax on long-distance telephone service. The Internal Revenue Service will issue refunds of tax on long-distance service for the past three years. Taxpayers will be able to apply for refunds on their 2006 tax forms, to be filed in 2007.
