As the shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security continues, more and more Americans are seeing the negative side effects.

Thanks to Senator Schumer and the caucus he leads, the Homeland Security shutdown has now entered its’ fourth week – and, although the White House sent an offer a week ago, there doesn’t look to be an end in sight.

It is March – the official start to the Spring season. However, in Oklahoma, springtime means more than just blooming flowers and warmer weather. It also means that storm season is coming.

As Oklahomans, we are not naïve to extreme weather and tornadoes. However, that does not mean we shouldn’t prepare and be ready for it when severe weather conditions do come.

Oklahomans, it is officially tax filing season.

As a fellow American who has gone through the daunting task of filing my taxes year after year, I know how dreadful this can be. However, this year, Republicans and President Trump hope to have turned this dread into relief.

Article I, Section 9, Clause 1 of the United States Constitution states “No money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.” This statement is where the Appropriations Committee, which I lead, derives its power to oversee all discretionary spending of the federal government and review how federal tax dollars are being spent.

At the beginning of the year, when President Trump and Congressional Republicans began the start of our governance, we made several commitments to the American people. So, now, as we approach the end of 2025, I can’t help but reflect on the multitude of promises we have delivered on – many of which were accomplished through Congress’ One Big Beautiful Bill.
