In 1945, following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II, the Korean peninsula was divided on the 38th parallel with the southern portion occupied by the United States and the northern potion occupied by the Soviet Union. A top House Republican is urging President Trump to submit to Congress a new use-of-force resolution governing the country's fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said the “sustained” nature of the U.S. military actions against ISIS demands that Congress grant the president the authority to conduct future operations against the terrorist group. He’s calling on Trump to take the first step.
