Press Release

Washington, D.C. – This weekend Congressman Tom Cole will be hosting British Parliamentarian Mr. Richard Shepard in Oklahoma and introducing him to U.S. politics on a state level. Congressman Cole will take Mr. Shepard on a tour of the Oklahoma National Memorial & Museum, the Carl Albert Center at OU and will be attending a higher education event in Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma vs. Oregon football game.

"I am looking forward to introducing Mr. Shepard to Oklahoma politics and Oklahoma football--a great combination," Congressman Cole said. "I think this will be interesting for both of us; we will get the opportunity to understand the similarities and differences between politics in The United Kingdom and the U.S."

Mr. Shepard has been a Member of Parliament, for Aldridge-Brownhills, since 1979. He is a member of the Select Committee on Modernization and the Select Committee of Human Rights. He is visiting the United States as part of the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program. Seven Members of Parliament from the United Kingdom are participating in this year's program.

"This program further develops the diplomatic relationship that already exists between the United Kingdom and the United States. It gives us a chance to develop friendships with citizens of a country who has been such a close ally to the U.S.," Congressman Cole said.
