Washington, D.C. - The House Appropriations Committee today approved the draft fiscal year 2017 Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS) funding bill. The legislation includes funding for programs within the Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education, and other related agencies.
In total, the draft bill includes $161.6 billion in discretionary funding, which is a reduction of $569 million below the fiscal year 2016 enacted level and $2.8 billion below the President's budget request.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) congratulated this year's Fourth District winner of the Congressional Art Competition. A rising junior in high school from south Oklahoma City, Katie Prior is the daughter of Karen and Dave Prior. She is homeschooled and studies art with Leslie Lienau at the Conservatory for Classical Art in Edmond.
Prior's winning artwork, Firefighter Ray, was created using charcoal on Rives paper. It will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol for a year and seen by thousands.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) responded to the attempt by the House to override the President's veto on the disapproval of the Department of Labor's definition of "fiduciary." This legislation, H.J.Res. 88, would have nullified the regulation issued by the Department of Labor to revise the term "fiduciary," ultimately changing the responsibilities within pension and retirement planning.
