While we have heartbreakingly learned about who each of these service members were over the past week, we can be undoubtedly proud that our country produces such amazing young people who choose to put service above self.

Last week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi called members of the U.S. House of Representatives back from their August district work for an emergency session. However, instead of considering truly pressing matters affecting the safety and security of our nation and allies, she focused debate and votes on ensuring passage of a “budget” in order to usher in $3.5 trillion in new spending on socialist-style policies and programs through the reconciliation process.

Incredibly, last week, President Joe Biden completely botched the withdrawal of remaining troops from Afghanistan, leaving only fear, desperation and a resurgent Taliban.

Indeed, the appropriations process is one of the most important functions of Congress and has generally been bipartisan with Democrats and Republicans working together to complete one of Congress’s most critical roles. That is, until this year when Democrats broke from this tradition and eliminated the life-saving Hyde Amendment.

Infrastructure is a topic that has been getting a lot of attention in recent weeks and months, especially after President Joe Biden rolled out a proposal earlier this year and with ongoing negotiations for actual legislation in Congress.
